How to check the device COM port number

1. When you start the device software first time, you may get the following error message:

This may happen when the COM PORT is not set in the device software.

2. To set the COM PORT in the device software, go to "Options" -> "Set options":

3. In "Options" dialog select "Advanced' tab, go to "Device" section and select "PC port".

It is recommended to set "PC port" to "Auto" and let software to auto detect COM port.

4. Click "OK" to save selection. Restart the device software. On device software startup the device should make a brief mechanical noise, signalizing that the device software was able to communicate with the device. Now you should be able to run experiments.Click on "single measurement" to run test measurement.

Troubleshooting:

In case you still unable to communicate with the device, try the following:

I. Turn off / on the device, plug in the USB cable to a different port.

II. Check the COM port number assigned to the device by Windows:

a. Press "Start" -> "Settings" and click with right mouse button on "Computer":

b. In "Computer" properties click on menu "Properties":

c. In "System Properties" select "Hardware" tab and click on "device manager":

d. In "Device Manager" select "Ports (COM & LPT)":

e. In "Ports (COM & LPT)" you should see "Silicon Laboratories CP210X COM port". Right click on it and select its properties:

f. In "Silicon Laboratories CP210X COM port" properties select :Port Settings" tab:

g. In "Port Settings" click on "Advanced...":

h. Here make sure to select "COM Port Number" from COM1, COM2, COM3 or COM4 (do not select port marked as "in use").
If "COM Port Number" is already one of COM1, COM2, COM3 or COM4 - do not change port number, just make a note of the port number.

i. Go to device software "Options" dialog and select "Advanced' tab, go to "Device" section and select "PC port".

Set the COM port number to be the same as the COM port number in "Device manager" from previous step (h).

j. Click "OK" on dialog and restart the device software.

On device software startup the device should make a brief mechanical noise, signalizing that the device software was able to communicate with the device.
